If you are living in a city and tired of the everyday rush and pollution, then you should undertake a hike and spend some time in the lap of serene landscapes to breathe in some fresh air. Moreover, you can make new friends along the way. Maybe you would encounter a life-changing rendezvous. Here is a list of 6 hiking trails that you should have on your bucket list.

6 Hiking Trails in the World That You Need to Visit

1. Te Araroa Trail in New Zealand

This 3000 km trail should be on your bucket list if you are visiting the land of kiwis. It stretches along the two islands from Cape Reinga in the North of New Zealand to Bluff in the South. Covering the entire length may take 3 to 6 months. During the trekking, you can experience the geographical diversity of New Zealand. The vast multitude of landscapes includes alpine ridges, national parks, and volcanoes. You can also enjoy the buzzing Maori lifestyle and culture in the Whanganui National Park, which meanders through the Takitimu Forest.

Summer is the best time to visit this place, that is, from October through April. There are several parts of the trail that can be quite taxing and demand river crossing, navigation skills and great fitness.

2. Tour Du Mont Blanc In France, Italy and Switzerland

Tour Du Mont Blanc is a special hiking experience as you get an opportunity to travel to three different countries. The trail stretches over 170 km. Crossing the narrow balcony path in the Chamonix valley with a backpack needs some navigational skills and mental toughness. Needless to say, the view of the grandiloquent Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe, is a visual delectation. Hikers take around two weeks to complete the trail. This trip is a great hut-to-hut hiking experience.

3. Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal

Are you looking for a scenic and serene landscape? Then it’s in the Himalayan valley. What’s a better way to explore the valley than hiking? Mount Everest in the lap of the Himalayan valley is a breathtaking beauty. The hike is incomplete without seeing the mesmerizing alpine lakes and Ngozumpa glacier. You can also have a glance at the grand views of Everest from the less visited Gokyo Ri part of the trail. Unpacking your backpack containing tents and camp gearsand setting them up at an altitude of 17000 feet will be a moment to cherish that no other trek can really offer. Although people trek round the year, the best time to trek is March to mid-May.

4. Sierra High Route, California

This is regarded as the hardest hike in the USA. Stretching over 200 miles with most part of the route off-trail, accomplishing the journey is a physical and mental challenge. Your path is likely to meander around  Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Devils Postpile National Monument, and Yosemite National Park. Vogelsang is the highest of the High Sierra camps at over 10,000 feet above sea level encircled by mesmerizing alpine lakes. Summer or early fall is the best time to visit this trail.

5. Inca Trail

The famous Inca Trails of Peru takes you through 43 kilometres of demanding trekking experience. Beautiful mountains, subtropical forests and Inca ruins of Llactapata and Runkurakay are sufficient reasons to undertake this trail. The best part is the final destination of the trek- ‘Machu Picchu’, the lost Inca city. Summer is the best time to undertake the hike.

6. Kilimanjaro

At 19,340 feet, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain range of Africa. With a wide range of climbing routes, January, February and September are the best time of the year to undertake the climb. The hiking trail meanders from one bucolic scene to another, with the backdrop ranging from a dormant volcano towering over Tanzania to visions of giraffe, zebra, and elephants.

Climbing the steep slopes and traversing through the rugged terrains may strike a chord of intimidation or fascination in many people. Nevertheless, first-timers who aren’t confident enough should take a guided tour. The thrill you are likely to get would be etched in your memory forever. Happy hiking!
