How I Did with my 2017 New Years Resolutions?

Posted by

Do you still remember what you promised an year ago? Have you tracked how you’ve been doing? I did go through all the resolutions in the middle of the year to make sure I remember what I was supposed to do. You can read my resolutions here, and 6 months update here. In this post I’m going to look back to my 2017 resolutions and tell you how I did.

1. Studies & Work

I promised to…

– pass all the medical courses

– do at least 50 credits (25 US credits) of economics

– do my best everyday at work

– work 40-60 hours a week during spring = get a second job

– earn money for a) new camera + lens, b) new Mac, c) trip to Europe and d) part of the wedding budget + some extra

– learn to use inDesign and Lightroom, and improve my Photoshop skills

How I Did?

So far I’ve done 29 credits economics and 3 credits Swedish for economics. I was unable to do as many economics courses I wanted because medicine and my work kept me extremely busy. I even had basically no time for this blog or my book project thus I just decided to be happy with these 29. And btw, I’ve 50% of my BBA degree done already, yeah!

What comes to medical courses I did have done 21 credits for sure, I’m also waiting results for 2 more exams if those are all passed I’ll have in total 32 credits medicine during 2017 which would be all passed.

Workwise I did get the second job and did two jobs (40-60 hours a week total) until April. Then I realized that I need some more time to concentrate on my smoothie book project, studies and some so I quit. I did good job in both of my jobs.

I did save a) around 50% of the camera, my dad sponsored the rest, yeah, b) around 50% of new Mac – my bf buys my old Mac from me that’ll make about the price of a new one in total :), c) the travel budget for Europe is saved (and spent there already haha), d) I also did manage to save some money for your wedding. I could though have saved a lot more but I’m happy I did manage to this well though.

I have learned to use Lightroom and tried inDesign. I haven’t though mastered either so I’ll keep learning. I’ve improved a bit with Photoshop but I’ll keep working on that one too.

2. Live Healthy & Look Good

I promised to…

– stick with 470kcal of exercise a day goal, reach it at least 5 times a week

– exercise at least 3-5 times a week

– try at least 3 new sports

– learn to bowl

– become a better golfer (and finally get a green card)

– eat more greens

– keep drinking a lot of water

– cook healthy food more often

– lose at least 20pounds (10kilos) in a healthy – 2pounds/month way during 2017

How I Did?

I’ve been exercising significantly more than last year, some week that means 2 times and others 6 times but I think I’ve been doing quite well with that one. I’ve though been quite boring and sticked mostly with my old favorites.

Anyhow, I did try some new ones too – at least Yin Yoga and Body Balance classes were new to me. Additionally, I tried bubble soccer in a company’s party so 3 new sports check! Anyhow, I cannot say I know how to bowl and I didn’t have time for getting the green card either.

I’ve been cooking almost all of our foods so I’ve done great with that one. Most days I’ve also done well with the water drinking. What comes to weight loss I’ve lost 7kg (15.5 pounds) from the beginning of the year. I was supposed be -20pounds / -10kg at this point. I’m quite happy though, I think I’ve gained some muscle on the way. 🙂

– have a mini holidays in Finland at least twice

– learn to drive a stick car

– do post(a) about must sees in Finland

– keep exploring different events in Finland

+ if possible I’d like to participate in at least one blogger meeting / event

– do honeymoon travel planning + post about ideas and plans

How I Did?

I’ve learned to survive with a stick car (!!), I’ve also visited over 10 European countries (see where we visited here, click). We also did travel in Finland couple times and I just actually write couple hotel reviews and other posts about our travels here.

I’ll write more about must sees in Finland at some point, I promise! I’m just always more into traveling and exploring abroad. I wish I’d also get a change to participate some blogger meetings or event next year, because I didn’t participate any during 2017.

4. Improve My Social Media & Related

I promised to…

– Write at least 5 quest posts to others

– Publish at least 5 quest posts in this blog (read this if you’re interested in a collab!)

– Do at least 5 sponsored posts

– Get more visits, visitors, likes and comments than last year

– Get tags and categories even more clear

– Update Instagram around 5-10 times a week

– Be more active in LinkedIn and keep it up to date

– Leave more comments to blogs and Instagram

How I Did?

I’ve done 5 more or less sponsored posts this year (GoMacro, Passio, Juuri, Herra Snellman, Musta Lammas and I’m working on a sponsored post for Ebookers at the moment). I had a lot of companies asking for cooperations this year but most of those were not suitable for this blog. If I do a sponsored post I always want to be able to a) be honest and tell the post is sponsored and b) I want that the post is something that interests and helps my readers.

I should have definitely focused more on those quest posts. I just were so busy that I was unable. I’d love to write to others and do collaborate more with fellow bloggers. I’ll try to find some time to do so next year. What I have done excellently is making the blog and it’s categories nice and clean. What comes to Insta I did well at the beginning of the year but after that… Well, I just had to prioritize my work, studies and blog over Insta.

I’ve been quite active with commenting and communicating with others. That has offered me some more readers but there hasn’t been as big change in views and visitors as I wished. However those have increased so I’m going to the right way.

5. Be Social

I promised to…

– Meet friends and do something fun as often as last year

– Enjoy cultural activities every month (theater, ballet, museums, etc)

– Get to know some of my new course mates, and network in general

– Organize something fun with friends at least 1-2 times a month (wine tastings, beach volley, board game nights, etc)

How I Did?

I’ve seen people, enjoyed a culture and hosted some events. However I haven’t been as active as last year because I’ve been working and studying everyday in addition I’ve given huge amount of hours for improving my social and my photography and editing skills.

  1. You’ve done so well with your studies, that it’s okay you didn’t reach the original goal. That’s still a shitload of credits haha, you’ve been smashing it this year and I’m so happy for you! I don’t even remember what I promised to myself but I’m pretty sure I haven’t kept them 😀

  2. I’m sorry but I really feel bad for your dog. If you’ve so much going on (and i assume your boyfriend also works full time), the poor dog seems to be yours only for being cute in pictures. Hopefully i’m wrong and you have somebody else to take the dog for walks and keep company for him.

    1. Don’t worry honey! My bf does some of his work from home and we always walk it at least 3 times a day. Also, his parents are living nearby and they sometimes takes our dog to their place. They also have another dog to keep company for our pupper. Additionally, two girls from our neighborhood love walking him. 🙂 I used to work as a dogsitter while I was younger, and I assume our puppy is living happier life than many others. And in addition it’s a super cute one! ❤️

  3. Sounds like you did an amazing job sticking to your goals for 2017! I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings for you! I always wanted to learn to drive a stick but I got super discouraged and never tried again haha. Maybe I should make that a goal!

    1. Hahaha! Sticks cars aren’t easy! We had a stick car twice last year – once for a week and once over weekend. Now I can survive with it but I still do not drive those if I don’t have to. Good luck with that goal! 😃
