I think that the best part of getting married is not the big party but the fact that you can have a whole month together abroad after that. I think honeymoon should be something stressless and fun, and it should include balanced combination of relaxing and activities.
I’ve had very hard time choosing the destination. I love planning and seeing the world. If I could choose I’d go around the whole globe and never come back. However my job will only allow me around 4 weeks off thus I think I have to choose something else than traveling all the countries.
I’ve only traveled Europe and the US so far. I love States and I’d love to live there or at least get there for a vacation asap. I don’t though find the US very romantic, and I guess I’ll be there quite lot in future. Europe is not very much my thing and I’ll be going there for a month upcoming summer so I find it quite boring to go there again after just an year, especially when there are so many other places I haven’t yet seen.
So I’ve ranked Europe and USA out. Thus we have Asia, Oceania, Africa, South America and Canada left. Canada is quite similar to the US and Northern Europe so it’s a no go for honeymoon too. I want something cool, exotic and luxurious.
Because luxurious month in Oceania would be super expensive I think it’s going to be Asia or Africa or couple of location there. I find Asia more attractive at the moment but I haven’t decided anything yet.
Here are the locations I’ve been thinking of:
1. Singapore
Singapore is known to be clean and safe city full of things to experience and explore. It seems to be cool mixture of Asian and western cultures. Sounds fascinating! Also many bloggers have written that the food is good and quite valuably priced. This is though one of the most expensive Asian locations and has no beaches so I might want to spend couple nights or a week here but not the entire month.
2. Vietnam
Nature, beaches, exotic culture and good food with quite low prices – sounds excellent to me! I’m not too interested in seeing city life during honeymoon but if I change my mind there are capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City available there. I’d love to go but I don’t found this one either a place where to stay for the entire month.
3. Malaysia
Malaysia offers islands with beautiful romantic beaches, big cities with skyscrapers and exotic rainforest Borneo. I’ve heard that couple of days in the capital, Kuala Lumpur is enough but that the country offers so many different things to see that maybe we could enjoy it a week or two.
4. Bali, Indonesia
Can it go wrong with an island called paradise? I’m quite sure Bali will be perfect place for relaxing, beaches and good food. This is the place where to get tanned and live without spending too much money. Bali sounds perfect to me but I think spending a whole month in one place (even if it’s just perfect) might be a boring idea because we could explore so much more in a month! I think Bali is a must go though.
5. MauritiusΒ
This another paradise is part of Africa. In Mauritius you can enjoy the sun, luxurious resorts, golf and some culture. This is quite popular destination for tourists so it’s not the cheapest option but it would be cool to say that we visited twoΒ continentsΒ during our honeymoon – or actually three because I think we have to change flights in Europe and we could stay night or two in some European city.
I’d love to combine couple of different locations, something between 2-5 could be good amount of places in a month. Because obviously we also want to relax not only be in airports or planes all the time. π
Have you guys been in any of those places in my list? How was it?
Where would you go for a honeymoon?
Love the choices you narrowed it down to! We only had a 2week honeymoon but in those two weeks travelled to Prague, Budapest and Spain! π enjoy

Great ideas, all five are pretty good places to visit. I haven’t been but I think I’d choose Mauritius from your list. We only went to Paris for a week for our honeymoon but to be honest it’s all about being together not necessarily the location. Wherever you choose will be special though.

That’s a very good point! π I still want to combine enjoying each other and seeing some awesome places. Paris is very beautiful and romantic too! We’re heading there next summer thus we want to go somewhere else for the honeymoon.

Being from Singapore, it is natural for us to say – this is the best. Of course!
But being pragmatic and fair, we have to say that Singapore is indeed costly. Thus you might not stretch and enjoy luxury as we would recommend you do for a honeymoon!
So, Bali would be the next best one followed by Malaysia in our opinion.
On the other hand, you can use Singapore as a base and make trips all over Southeast Asia from there!

Thanks for your thoughts Mel & Suan! We could get straight flights from Helsinki (where the wedding will be) to Singapore. That makes it logical to spend at least a night or two there. But I agree that staying in luxurious resorts in Bali would be more wallet friendly. I’m already looking forward to seeing Asia! π

Only four weeks?! That’s a lot of time! Lucky you! With four weeks you can travel around most of Asia. I would do those on your list and throw in Thailand if you haven’t been. I would move every week. I’ve just planned my own honeymoon, I’m going to three Hawaiian islands and Tokyo in just 2 weeks! All the best on your vacation xo

Oh wow, Hawaii and Tokyo sounds amazing too! π I’ve never been in Thailand, I’ve heard some bad things about the destinations with the most tourism there but maybe I should do some more googling. There sure is some places worth visiting! If I could choose I’d love to travel for couple months but we have jobs to do thus four weeks is the maximum. π I hope you guys have amazing and unforgettable honeymoon!

I highly recommend Bali, I went last year and it’s just paradise! My parents got married in Mauritius and absolutely loved it, the pictures look insane! I used to live in Grenada (island in the caribbean) and I would definitely consider it for a honeymoon, it’s beautiful with so much to do and some very nice hotels

Well, after living 23 years of my 24 year life in Europe it doesn’t seem all that romantic idea haha! We’re also going to roadtrip around over 10 European countries this summer so it’d be fun to do something a bit different and special for the honeymoon. Maybe if I’d live somewhere else, I could see myself traveling here for the honeymoon. π
